Gay

Acceptable term to talk about people attracted to a person of the same gender, usually men who are attracted to men

Intersex

There are a number of intersex conditions (recently renamed Disorders of Sex Development), some of which lead to physical genital anomalies. Those born with them may experience inconsistency between their gender identity and the gender role assigned at birth.

Sexual orientation

Describes the gender we are attracted to ie lesbian, gay, bisexual or heterosexual

Sexuality

The way we express our sexual self as individuals. Distinct from but often used to mean sexual orientation.

Transgender

An umbrella term for people whose gender identity and/or gender expression differs from their birth sex. They may or may not seek to undergo gender reassignment hormonal treatment and/ or surgery. Often used interchangeably with trans.
